Avi has developed a special set of Bob Dylan classics that he will be performing right here at The Shepherd Center! He premiered this show in Newport of last year before a special screening of the new Bob Dylan biopic to rave reviews and an encore. We are in for a real treat!
About the Artist
Born into a Jewish family in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, Avi is the son of historian Robert Michael, a noted historian of the Holocaust. Avi first started performing original folk concerts at age 14 & at age 18 moved to Boston & immersed himself in the Boston’s vibrant DIY music scene. He became involved with The Whitehaus Family Record, releasing several early recordings as he honed his craft as a songwriter and performer.
In 2010, Avi relocated to Charleston, South Carolina, to pursue a professional music career. He began playing small festivals, gaining recognition through music blogs and compilation releases. He later co-wrote “All the Liars,” performed by Diana DeMuth and released in 2020.
In December 2015, Counting Crows invited him to CMJ, labeling him “an emerging folk superstar” That same year, A&R Report featured him as an artist to watch.
His EP “Surrender” was produced by Simone Felice, known for his work on The Lumineers’ Billboard #1 album “Cleopatra,” and included contributions from members of The Felice Brothers. In May 2020, Avi released his album “Preservation” via Bandcamp. Avi won a 2022 New England Music Award.
