A Movie-Making Master Class with the Sweet Freedom Team

Join us for an engaging and insightful master class that delves into the filmmaking process behind Sweet Freedom, a 25-minute historical drama set in 1839 New Bedford. Led by writer/director Alyssa Botelho and featuring producer Carley Byers, cinematographer Sean Campbell, editor Nick Doyle, and costume designers Claudia Negalha & Debra Borges Roderick, this session will offer a behind-the-scenes look at how the film was brought to life. Designed to be both informative and entertaining for people of all experience levels, the master class will combine practical advice with creative concepts. You’ll see real examples from Sweet Freedom, including behind-the-scenes footage and clips from the film, as each member of the team shares their expertise—from crafting a compelling story and capturing stunning visuals to creating authentic period costumes and fine-tuning the final cut. Whether you’re new to filmmaking or a seasoned pro, you’ll leave with valuable takeaways to apply to your own creative journey.
