What to Expect

Shananagans and Eddie Dillon will be performing a mix of songs and stories: some upbeat, some poignant, some humorous, some participatory, some original, and some standards along with tunes from their popular “Songs of the Sea” sets!

About the Band

Shananagans is comprised of Tom Kennedy and Joe Zajac, two accomplished musicians from the greater New Bedford area. They combine a varied background of musical influences which reflect in the versatility of their instrumentation: guitar, 5-string banjo, mandolin, pennywhistle, bouzouki, and bodhran. Their musical chops combined with tight vocal harmonies create a unique, signature sound.

Tom and Joe are comfortable playing many different musical styles including Irish and American folk, bluegrass, country, old time rock and roll, and contemporary songs. Their collective personality reaches out to a wide range of audiences to capture the spirit of the performance. They’re not just great singers and musicians; they’re also a lot of fun.

Shananagans History

Tom Kennedy started the band with Eddie Dillon and Bruce Foley back in 1978; we added a fiddle player, John Heck, and were primarily a 4 piece band for most of the 1980s. Bruce Foley was replaced by Dick Lewis in 1981 and he was part of the band until his death in 2011. Eddie left the band in 1986 and was replaced by Joe Zajac, who along with Tom Kennedy is the present-day version of Shananagans. Over the years, they’ve continued to do occasional shows with Eddie Dillon when the right circumstances present themselves!
